Sometimes not having a plan is a good thing......and this week, my "no plan" has been a very good thing! 3 yummy dishes have come out of it!
I hope you enjoy this recipe and it brings back good "holiday" memories for you!!!
French Fried Onion Chicken with Green Beans Casserole
2 lbs. boneless skinless chicken, cut into bite-sized pieces
2 cans condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup
1 cup Milk
2 tsp. soy sauce
1 tsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper
1 big can French Fried Onions, divided (I think it's the 6 oz. size, but I'm not sure!)
3-4 big handfuls of fresh green beans (enough for your family)
Directions:
In the bottom of your slow cooker insert, place the chicken.
Sprinkle half of your French Fried Onions over the top of your chicken.
Mix together the soup, milk, soy sauce, garlic powder, salt and pepper.
Pour it over the chicken.
Sprinkle the remaining French Fried Onions on top.
Cook on LOW for 6-7 hours or on HIGH for 3-4 hours.
It will look something like this!
1 hour before serving, add your Green Beans on top.
When your green beans are ready, you are ready to eat!
Enjoy!
Looks super yummy to me! I've been craving that casserole as well! Too bad my husband doesn't like onions! Grrr!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to make this! :)
ReplyDeleteMake it one night when he won't be home Lindsay!!
ReplyDeleteNicole, you'll love it!
Made this the other night and it was AMAZING! I shared your site with a ton of my other mom friends! I am making your Creamy Chicken Pasta with Sun dried tomatoes and green beans tonight :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you enjoyed this Carla!
ReplyDeleteBusy Mom: Do you have a suggestion for substituting the fried onions? I'm on WW and trying to lose weight and follow a healthy diet. I know I could substitute the milk and soup, but I don't know how to replace the fried onion rings! Thank you for any and all suggestions!!! =] charlotte from OC, Ca
ReplyDeletethanks for this idea! I've made chicken with mushroom soup & cream of chicken before and have added a packet of italian seasoning or a pkt of ranch seasoning, but never thought of doing a green bean casserole w/chicken, it was very good and 2 of my step-kids were here this weekend and they both tried it and liked it, which was shocking! love this site! great recipes/ideas, I love using my crock pot!
ReplyDeleteWhat about baking some onions with some Pam and a sprinkling of bread crumbs and using those?
ReplyDeleteSo glad your step-kids liked it!
ReplyDeleteThis was delicious! I used 3 whole frozen chicken breasts instead of cutting them up. I also omitted the salt and didn't use a whole can of the fried onions. I served over rice. So good! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Kristy!
ReplyDeleteCould you use frozen or canned green beans? Has anyone tried this? I'm new to the whole slow cooker scene :)
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't use frozen in this particular recipe unless you thaw them first, in which case would be fine. And yes, you can use canned, they just won't taste quite as good ;)
ReplyDeleteI used frozen when I made it last. They did take awhile to cook. I didn't think to thaw them first...duh! I will do that next time b/c I ALWAYS have frozen green beans in the house.
ReplyDeleteKristy.....yes, thawing them first might be a good idea ;)
ReplyDeleteIs the soy sauce added in with the soup, milk mix?
ReplyDeleteYes Liz....thank you for letting me know I missed that! I will edit it now ;)
ReplyDeleteHope,
ReplyDeleteI love your blog! I made your onion fried chicken casserole yesterday and balsamic chicken today. Both were great!
Thank you Liz!
ReplyDeleteCan I pin this recipe to Pinterest?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely! Pin away!
DeleteDo the FF onions come out crispy?
ReplyDeleteThanks and God bless :)
Just the ones on top :)
DeleteWhat size crock pot did you use for this?
ReplyDeleteA 2-3 quart would work.
DeleteI love cooking on my slow cooker. It is a great way to make an easy healthy recipe. Cooking at home is definitely the healthy way to cook and a great way to reduce calories. And this recipe looks delicious. I have been eating healthy and cutting calories with the help of my diet tracker it allows me to plan meals in advance and keep track of calories.
ReplyDeleteI agree Mindy. Sounds like your calorie tracker is working great for you!
DeleteEven though this recipe is pretty healthy I used low calorie mushroom soup to reduce calorie. Enjoy.
ReplyDeleteMy family loved this recipe. I made my own french fried onions a lower calorie version and it was delicious.
ReplyDeleteOooh! How do you do that?!
Deletei'm new to slow cooking and have a silly question. when you say to add the green beans an hour before serving, do you mean to add them at the end of hour 6 (if i'm cooking on low for 7 hours) or after the 7 hours are done add the green beans and cook for another hour or leave on warm for an hour with the green beans?
ReplyDeleteAt the end of hour 6 ;)
