Green Bean Casserole is a "must-have" at all our Thanksgiving Family gatherings. My mom made it when I was a kid, my sister now makes it for the family every Thanksgiving, and my Father-in-law makes it at their family Thanksgiving every year too. I would be totally lost without it!
I served this at our Mock Thanksgiving Dinner last night and it was seriously perfect! It took me less than 5 minutes to assemble it and turn it on! You're gonna LOVE this, I PROMISE! Save the oven space and utilize those slow cookers folks!!!!
Ingredients:
2 - 14.5oz. cans Green Beans, drained
6 oz. French Fried Onions, divided
1 can Cream of Mushroom Soup
2/3 cup milk
1 tsp. soy sauce
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 Tsp. garlic powder
1/8 tsp. pepper
Directions: (I used a 2 Quart Crock for this recipe)
Place the drained green beans at the bottom of your crock.
In a bowl, mix the cream of mushroom soup, milk, soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder and pepper.
Mix half of the French Fried Onions in last.
(We like A lot of onions, but if you don't, only add a 1/4 of the container)
Pour this mixture over your green beans and mix it up.
Top with the rest of the French Fried Onions.
(or less than that if you don't like it really oniony)
Cook on LOW for 4 hours or on HIGH for 2 hours.
ENJOY!
I was planning to use my crocks for several sides, but wasn't sure yet which ones....This will be going in one for sure!!! Thanks for trying and posting!!! Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family!!!
ReplyDeleteThat's what I'm here for! Glad you'll be trying it!
DeleteThis is great. I agree, I will only make this in the slow cooker from now on.
ReplyDeleteGood! :)
DeleteWhile I was growing up with a large family we would have this but would have browned hamburger in it. It made a perfect dinner as an option to just a side dish.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea :)
DeleteHow many servings is this recipe?
ReplyDeleteI would say anywhere from 4-8 depending on the portion size you serve.
DeleteDo I have to cook longer if ivtriple the serving size or still the same?
DeleteI'm concerned about the onions on top getting soggy? Do you use the cover or cook without it?
ReplyDeleteI'm curious about the sogginess too...
DeletePut onions on top about 15 min before serving, then leave lid off.
DeleteThinking of bringing this to my work Thanksgiving Pot Luck. Would it be ok to triple the recipe?
ReplyDeleteSure! Just use at least a 6 quart slow cooker I would say
Deleteso if i used the 6qt slow cooker do I double the recipe since this is for a 2-3qt?
DeleteI would definitely double it for it to cook properly in a 6 quart ;)
DeleteI make this for Thanksgiving potluck and I triple the recipe and put in my 6 quart slow cooker. Love this recipe and will never go back to the oven way of doing this.
DeleteI agreed to bring green bean casserole to my office's volunteer appreciation potluck, and I was worried about keeping it warm between 8 a.m. and lunch time. This recipe solved my problem--thank you!
ReplyDeleteI used frozen beans, since I like the texture better slightly crunchy. The taste was great prep and cooking awesome, but the texture ended up like the beans were canned. Next time I am going to reduce the cooking time to preserve some crunchiness in the beans.
ReplyDeletere: onions I would suggest adding them for the last 30-45 minutes if you like them crunchy
ReplyDeleteThank you for suggestion.... I've been wondering about this:-)

DeleteExcellent recipe. Took it to a work pot luck and it was perfect!
ReplyDeleteMade this yesterday for Thanksgiving day. I followed the recipe as stated above exactly (low for 4 hours) except I waited until 2 hours into the 4 hour cooking window before adding the onion topping and I used a 3 qt slow cooker. The onions were still completely soggy and looked nothing like the last photo by the author above.
ReplyDeleteThough this recipe was tasty (similar to making the Campbell's recipe off of the can), at the end of cooking time it looked oily. My only guess is that the soup broke down over the 4 hours of cooking on low heat in the slow cooker. There is no other fat/oil/butter in this recipe so its my best guess. Another theory is that the author may have cooked this recipe without the slow cooker lid on. Someone else asked about covering the cooker above and the author gave no reply.
Also, it stuck to my slow cooker terribly. I did not spray or butter the crock since the above recipe did not state to do so.
Although convenient as a set it and forget it recipe for Thanksgiving morning, I would not make this recipe again in the slow cooker.
I just spread my onions on a pan in the oven for 5 mins right before and then put those on top in the crock pot right before we left for our gathering....NICE AND CRISPY!
ReplyDeleteWhat size can soup do you use?
ReplyDelete10.5oz cans of soup....and I agree with toasting the onions I put mine in a Parmesan cheese container so each serving could have a fresh crunchy layer on top..since I made a double batch for church...
ReplyDeleteIf you were to double the ingredients in this recipe, would you also need to increase the amount of time that it cooks for?
ReplyDeleteNope :)
DeleteI made this last year my family love it there was none left!! I am making it again this year!!!!
ReplyDeleteYay!
DeleteCan you use the fresh french cut green beans.. ?
ReplyDeleteFound at costco..
Yes
DeleteI make this every year for thanksgiving. It does have issues sticking but I found crock pot liners and now it's a quick clean up. I also add some fresh diced mushrooms and crisp bacon. It disappears each time.

ReplyDeleteIf I double this recipe, is the cooking time the same?
ReplyDeleteMost likely you will need to cook it an hour or two longer.
DeleteDo you cook it with or without the crock pot lid?
ReplyDeleteOnly at the end to thicken it up
DeleteThank you! Happy Thanksgiving!!
DeleteI have also read that venting at the end will help with the crisping of the onions on top. I have my ingredients.....just need to make it!
ReplyDeleteDo you use a lid...
ReplyDeleteThanks it was really good :) i used the same ingredients but 30 min before serving, i browned the onions in the oven for 2-3 min. Then added them on top. I used a lid, until i added the onions; after that i left the lid off. I also added previously cooked bacon at that point, too! Delish. Thanks again.
ReplyDeleteCan you mix all ingredients and cook an hour later? Or not?
ReplyDeleteYes, although I would keep it in the fridge since it has milk ;)
DeleteDo you use a lid the entire cooking time? Can you prepare it and cook it about an hour later?
ReplyDeleteI used a lid the entire cooking time, but remove it at the end to let it thicken if need be. Many have made this and left the additional onions on top off until the end so they don't get soggy. I didn't have a problem, but every slow cooker is different. You can absolutely prepare it then cook it an hour later.
DeleteThis awesome! We have a small group this year. I have a 3 pot crockpot and plan to use it for corn, green bean casserole and cranberry sauce. My ham is in the regular crockpot.
ReplyDeleteWonderful! Happy Thanksgiving!
DeleteIt so wonderful that a post from 4 years ago is still helping people. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you for taking the time out of your Thanksgiving day to write such kind words! ❤️
