Traditional Turkey Breast

Holiday Recipe Header

I am so excited to kick off "Slow Cooking Through the Holidays" with Ginger from Crock Pot Recipe Exchange with this perfect Traditional Turkey Breast!  Throughout the Holidays, Ginger and I will be posting our recipes 2 ways....hers and mine!  You can check out Ginger's Cranberry Braised Turkey Drumsticks here!

Look no further for your Thanksgiving Turkey!!!!!!!!  What an easy, no fuss, no mess way to impress your guests with this juicy, tender and incredibly flavorful Turkey Breast!  Of course, I stuffed mine with home-made stuffing, but you don't have to stuff yours if you don't want to.  Also, you don't have to use my recipe for stuffing, you can use your own secret family recipe, or you can use Stovetop!  (I won't tell!!!!)  You won't get the crispy skin on your Turkey like you might in the oven, but trust me, you won't miss it!  I've never had such juicy white meat before!  Which brings me to my next point.....dark meat lovers, you won't miss the dark meat here either!!!!  I promise!

I hope your family enjoys this Turkey as much as mine did!  We had ours with my AMAZING Sweet Potato Casserole and Homemade Sweet and Savory Stuffing.

I'll be making a "Turkey and Dumplings" Casserole tomorrow with some of the leftovers and then freezing the rest to use at a later date!

Note:  I made my stuffing the night before and stuck it in a zip lock bag in the refrigerator.  In the morning, I quickly rubbed my turkey breast with olive oil and sprinkled it with the rub.  Then, I stuffed my breast and turned it on!

Traditional Turkey Breast
Ingredients:
7 lb. or less Turkey Breast (I used my 6.5 Quart Slow Cooker for this)
1/2 stick butter, cut into lots of pieces
Olive Oil

Rub:
2 tsp. Garlic Powder
1 tsp. Onion Powder
1 tsp. Salt
1/4 tsp. Pepper
1 tsp. Poultry Seasoning

Directions:
Mix together your rub and cut up your butter.

Remove the gizzards and rinse your Turkey Breast.  Pat it dry and then place it into your slow cooker.
Rub it down with olive oil and then sprinkle all over with the rub.
If you are stuffing your breast, stuff it now.  Here's my recipe for Sweet and Savory Stuffing.
I stuffed the neck cavity as well.
Place your butter squares all over your Turkey.
Cover and cook on LOW for 10 hours or on HIGH for 5 hours.

Serve with some delicious sides!
Make your own gravy out of the drippings if you would like.
Most importantly, ENJOY!!!!

  14. Finally, a crock pot recipe that does not involve a can of cream of mushroom soup and a packet of onion soup mix. Thank you!

  15. Can you or do you recommend adding a can of broth to the turkey in the crockpot, or adding any celery or onion for more flavor

    ReplyDelete

    1. If you want a lot of "gravy" then you can add some broth. Adding celery and onion is always a welcomed addition ;)

  17. I love to add sweetened, dried cranberries and/or whole berry canned cranberries to my turkey... do you think doing so would work with this?? Your recipe sounds perfect ~ easy, delicious, & delightful... so excited to try it next Thanksgiving!! :)

  18. what size slow cooker do you use? would a 6 quart work?

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. The bigger the better because depending on the size of your breast, it may or may not fit. If you only have a 6 quart, go for a smaller breast.

  19. My lid doesn't always fit right once I have the turkey in.... (Bc the turkey bone sticks out a tad causing the lid not to sit flush) should I just over it with ton foil? I'm not a crock pot pro yet... Thanks for your help' :-)

    1. I'm just seeing this recipe today - hope you found your answer, but if not I've seen where people have used heavy duty foil tightly to cover if lid does not fit.

  20. Hi Hope! Thank you so much for this recipe. I have made it so many times over the past few years. It is wonderful to send to work with my husband for he and his coworkers when he is forced to work Thanksgiving. I am making it today to make some extra gravy to freeze before a busy thanksgiving day and to make some Turkey pot pies to freeze before baby # 4 arrives in 6 weeks.

  21. I made this yesterday and it turned out perfect! My family asked for a ham and turkey breast (as tradition calls) and since we don't have a double oven out came the slow cooker. I was unsure of trying a new recipe on a holiday but it was a great success. I did broil the turkey before serving to crisp up the skin. Thank you for sharing this recipe!

  22. I just wanted to thank you for this turkey recipe. I wanted to do something different because it was only my husband and myself for Christmas dinner this year and I didn't need to do anything big and fussy. So we started eating and all I heard from my husband was grunting noises as he ate and after a few minutes he finally said, "This is the best turkey I've ever had honey, it's even better than my Moms." I knew it was good, but for him to say that means a lot! Thank you so much!!! x
